funny little post about our kids and their toys...Before Santa arrived I took the opportunity to 'organize' all of the toys in our home. This included 5 toy boxes, 6 under bed storage bins, and 2 closets. In doing so we rediscovered SOOOO many things that had been forgotten because of missing pieces. Every room that I went into I made a stack of things for the trash (not telling the kids, of course). AND, without fail, they followed me from room to room playing with these junky, trash-bound toys. This really made me think twice about all of the Christmas gifts they had yet to open.
Anyway, then Christmas came and they got some really great, creative, educational stuff! I was sure that my stay at home life would be made more peaceful with each gift that they opened!!! (You parents can guess where this is going.) After all the wrapping paper had settled, and the new toys were finding new homes in our 5 toy boxes, 6 storage bins, and 2 closets........I realized something. Dylan had the most fun using a $2 flashlight from his stocking. I have caught him shining it on the floor enticing Olivia to chase it like a damn cat. Funny thing is that she LOVES this game, and laughs while he torments her. Why do we waste soooo much time and money on the other stuff?? Probably more for us than them, but this Christmas has taught me that 'the less a toy does, the more a child has to do'. Meaning, they will be creative no matter what toys are available to them.
I will try to remember this when I am being BEGGED for the first video game in 2 years.

That cracked me up! We are way too in tune. I really could have written your post. Except for that part about the 6 storage containers. I am not that organized- they go in the trash.
