Coupon Crazy Courtney

No, we are not poverty stricken...but I am known for being, well...Scottish. Which is appropriate considering my heritage. Nonetheless, I have this new game that I play. I'm sure I'm not the founder of the game, but I am very good at it. I get all of the grocery store circulars, and shop the items that we use. I mainly focus on the BOGO's at Publix (Buy One Get One free deals). I find the LOWEST price in town for those items, and then I start googling printable coupons. Here's the payoff...my goal is to save as much as I spend.

Examples from this week:

  • Nature's Valley granola bars BOGO: I had a coupon for $.60 off each box. I used two coupons, got two boxes and spent $1.40. That's $.70 per box!!
  • Huggies diapers/wipes: I had 2 coupons $1.50 off diapers and $.50 off wipes. Then Publix had a coupon for $5 off when you buy one of each. The gross total was $28.49 less coupons totalling $7. I spent $21.49. To top it off we qualified for a mail in rebate of $5. That makes the total purchase $16.49 for one month's worth of Olivia's diapers and wipes!

Today I spent $100 at Publix. My total savings was $60, I had a $5 Publix gift card from a promotional mail in rebate from Kraft, and I earned another $5 mail in rebate from a Kimberly Clark Mail promotion. So out of pocket I spent $90 and saved $60...not too bad, and we have MORE food than we need for a week.

My new goal is to get this down to $50 a week...if we didn't buy wine or beer or diapers or formula we'd be there by now. But, hey I can't sacrifice everything for my little game!

I think I need rehab for this because I am OBSESSED!!!!!

Patty always carried a coupon purse:) She also used to go to the hispanic cashiers and try and use coupons for stuff that she didn't buy. Just a thought for you...
