2010...what a beginning

When the clock struck 12 on New Year's Eve, we really didn't know what to expect this year. Given the financial diet that we had been on for 3 years, we thought that maybe we would replace the carpet on the kids' side of the house...but, not for a few months. We also thought that maybe we would be faced with some health issues for Kobe our 11 year old Doberman. And, possibly some repairs for the ole Civic. We really had no idea that we would have to face all of that and then some within the first 6 weeks.

It all started in the third week of January when we decided to go ahead and replace the carpet in the kids' side of the house. Because, as my BFF Leslie said so eloquently, 'we were good candidates given the concrete slab that had been showing for 6 months.' I kinda felt like we 'deserved' it. That is such a slippery slope because we deserve all that and then some. :)

Then, that same week Kobe became very ill. Unexpectedly, he had bloated and we had to put him so sleep. It was so terribly sad and sudden.

One week later I decided it could be fun to put John's Civic on Craigslist. We knew that some repairs were looming, given that it was already at 211k miles. We got 10+ calls and sold it in 3 days. Due to how fast this happened, John went 2 weeks without a car and finally, we settled on a car and placed a deposit to replace the Civic. The next morning the TV blew out. Literally, I had just placed a $500 deposit on the car, gone to bed, and woken up to the big bang of a blown out TV. BAD TIMING!

So already this year we have treated ourselves to carpet, lost our dog, sold our car, bought a new (slightly used) car, and finally upgraded to the 21st century and gone HD with our TV.

6 weeks down, 46 to go.
