Never be too proud to bribe

As part of our preparations for baby Grayson we have placed two twin beds in Dylan's room, with the intention of moving Olivia in the near future. I AM JUST SO SCARED! She is such a good sleeper right now in the crib. I can count on 7:30PM-7:30AM and a 2-3 hour nap everyday. The problem is that we have a 3 bedroom house, and so eventually she will have to be moved to the bed so that Grayson can have the nursery.

The point of this post isn't really about Olivia, though, its about Dylan. Dylan was moved from the crib to his bed at 18 months in anticipation of Olivia. He was the perfect sleeper until that point (just like O), and then the wheels came off the bus and he has been getting up at least 4 nights a week, 1-2 times a night ever since. THAT HAS BEEN 2 YEARS!

In desperation, I refuse to move Olivia to the bed in Dylan's room until Dylan is sleeping through the night. Enter BRIBERY. Leslie had a great idea, and it has been very successful. I went to the store and bought a few Hot Wheels cars as a reward for each night that Dylan stays in his bed ALL NIGHT until the sun comes up. This worked like a charm Friday-Sunday of this week, and then I ran out of cars. So, what does Dylan say to me last night...."Mommy, how am I going to stay in my bed all night without a new car to open in the morning?" So, I assured him that we would run to the store and buy one on the way to school. It didn't matter, he was disappointed AND he got up 3 times last night.

So, you can bet what I did today. I ran to the store and bought a large stash of cars...enough to get me through the weekend when I can replenish. Leslie ASSURES me that at some point (say 20 cars from now) this will be a habit, and I won't have to continue to bribe him. But, until then Olivia is in the crib and Hot Wheels is getting $1 a day from the Elder family.
