Where did the month go? Baseball Update!

I can't believe it's been a month since I've made time to blog...so much has been going on.  From tee-ball/baseball season, to road-trips, to family visiting, to front yard project completion, to discovering Pinterest...it's been a good month for us!  (It's been such a good month, in fact, that it is taking me about 20 minutes to migrate all of the pictures and video that I've taken from my phone.  I used to drag my big SLR camera around with me, but now with my new iPhone I barely use the SLR.)

Tee-ball: Where to begin? Okay, well for starters John is coaching Olivia's tee-ball team.  I am self-appointed dug out mom...what a freakin' task that is?!?!  Olivia is semi-interested in playing, but more excited about chatting with the 2 other girls on the team about things like: My Little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake.  Grayson has decided that he is now part of the team, and no one could convince him otherwise.  Luckily, the league provided us with an extra jersey!  So, with the help of a $6 pair of baseball pants Grayson is official!  He absolutely loves to smack the ball!  This kid hits as well as (if not better than) the 4 year old's on the team.  What a learning process for the kids, and character building experience for the coaches!  In each game there is undoubtedly a knock-down-drag-out-infield-fight for most ground balls.  Often resulting in some type of green jersey kid pile up, ending with one victorious ball finder and several others in tears.  Then, there's the dugout experience when it is our turn to bat.  I am pretty sure I sound like this: "Olivia, get a helmet.  Grayson, put down the bat.  Olivia, you need to hustle out there.  No, not that way...this way.  Nathan, stop throwing the glove at the fence.  Please, stop climbing the fence.  Avery, you're on deck.  Grayson, put the bat down.  Good hit, Olivia!!! Avery, the pink bat is out there...Yes, it is.  NO need to cry.  Grayson, put the bat down.  Who's my catcher next inning?  Get your gear on.  Please get off the fence.  Grayson, put down the bat.  Hunter, has to go potty.  Can someone please get his dad?" etc.... you get the point, this is why they equate it to 'herding cats'.

First Practice: The moment I realized that Grayson thought he was on the team.  Here's his reaction to me telling him to stay in the dugout at the first practice.

First Game: Sweet Olivia was playing first base and took a ball to the forehead.  She handled it soooo well!

Baseball:  Dylan is starting his first season of machine pitch baseball!! It is very exciting, and so different.  First difference is that John and I get to be spectators...though I struggle with keeping my coaching voice quietly tucked in my head.  Second difference is that they keep score, track strikes, track outs, and play real positions in the field.  These 6-8 year olds actually run plays.  Dylan has caught on so well to the concept, I'm a very proud mama.  His fielding is impressive, especially for being one of the youngest on the team.  Batting on the other hand has been off to a little bit of a rougher start.  After 2 games of 3 strike outs, D-man got his first hit on Saturday! John and I were coaching Olivia's team at the time, but luckily the tee-ball group was in the field so I was able to run over and see it first hand...poor Daddy missed it, but I'm sure I screamed, jumped and cheered loud enough for both of us.  The strike outs were getting old for all 3 of us!  Dylan is rather competitive and was starting to get a little pissy about missing the ball.  There was definitely some helmet throwing and bat banging going on in the dugout as he did the walk of shame back to the bench.  This was time for some extra practice on the machine.  John took him up to the field this weekend and had him practice batting for a couple of hours.  In between cracking jokes and being silly, Dylan really did well!  Hoping for some big hits at tonight's game!!

After Dylan's First Game:  Kid is such a clown!      During his game this weekend- Mom yelling! :)

Signing off for now, time to plan my baby's 3rd birthday party!!! OMG...where has the time gone?!?!?
