Cheyenne our friend

Chey-ger Shark, Chey Chey, Chey Baby, Chey, etc. This family is definitely one for loving nicknames, and Chey was not the exception. We said good-bye to our baby this Monday at 11:45 AM. Chey gave it all she had, and was a wonderful and unforgettable soul from beginning to end.

Chey's journey with me began when I was in high school. I convinced my mom that Cheyenne was 'must-have' from the local shelter. We brought her home when she was only 9 months old to be friends with our Rusty and from day one she ran the show...with her authoritative bark and knowing looks.

I moved Chey to Gainesville with me while in college (after Rusty passed away) and we have been inseparable ever since. Cheyenne was diagnosed with Addison's disease at just 3 years old, but was a fighter and lived a happy, healthy life with the disease for over 10 years. (All with the help of her monthly DOCP injection.)

Chey witnessed first-hand...
* adding Kobe to the family (and being in charge once again)
* adding Dexter, Leo, and Sammy the ferret to the family
* adding John to the family :) (and losing her spot in the bed)
* our engagement
* moving 4 times (and ruling every home we had)
* our marriage (she sure missed us while we were on our week-long honeymoon)
* building our first home (and digging comfortable holes for sun-filled naps in the back yard)
* welcoming Dylan (and enjoying his table scraps, and chewy toddler toys)
* welcoming Olivia (and enjoying her table scraps, and big open mouth kisses too.)

Chey, you will never be replaced and we have no regrets. Where does 13 years go? We love you and miss you.

Kobe, Dex, Leo, Mommy, Daddy, Dylan, and LaLa

I'm teary. Cheyenne did have eyes that were way too wise for a dog. I will never forget that about her. She did seem to understand more than any other dog I have met.

Sniff, sniff. That was sad, and I'm no crier.

I am so sorry to hear about Chey. She was a beauty. I know it's hard, but we all have to go though it at some point in our lives. They are our family. Makes be cry and think of when we put Misty down this year. Maybe another puppy?
